Champlevé Enameling: Color and Narrative in Jewelry

In this workshop you’ll learn the fundamentals of Champlevé enameling through traditional metalsmithing techniques such as piercing, soldering and enameling. The main focus of this class will be working with opaque colors to achieve a colorful pendant or pin to bring home along with sample pieces to understand the process. Techniques that will be covered are piercing, sweat soldering, forming, wet packing and sifting enamel, polishing and finishing. This workshop is open to all skill levels, some metalsmithing experience is helpful though not required.
Saw + Solder Champlevé

In this workshop, students will explore the specialized process of champlevé enameling, gaining a fundamental understanding of how to fire enamels into recessed areas of metal. Enamel is an excellent way to introduce both narrative and abstract imagery, adding vibrant color to jewelry. This exploratory, technical workshop will cover essential techniques, including etching, soldering, and image transfer, along with how to work with both opaque and transparent enamels. Various finishing techniques will also be taught. This workshop is open to all skill levels, though some prior metalsmithing experience is helpful but not required. Students can expect to leave with multiple samples and/or finished pieces.
